Since the beginning of his apprenticeship as a Carpenter and Joiner in 1960 John has been interested in making boxes. As an apprentice he was encouraged to make boxes for his oil stone, rebate plane, various chisels etc.
Life intervenes and upon settling on the Central Coast in 2014, John returned to making boxes.
John is never so fulfilled as when he is working with his hands making a box out of a selection of wood, some glue and varnish. The sight and smell of wood being cut and sanded takes him back to the days as an apprentice in the 1960’s.
John has commendations for his boxes awarded by the annual competition called Maker of the Year Awards.
