The Lumina Collective | Being in Time and Place

Participating artists: Karynne Courts, Marion Farley, Anna-Karina Hermkens, Cheryl McCoy

The concept of being in time and place can be interpreted as a human desire to find connection and identity within the temporal framework of past, present and future. The association with cultural roots, familial ties, and historical lineage provides individuals with a sense of continuity and context. In the present, being manifests through shared experiences, communities, and the bonds we form with others while navigating the same moment in history. Looking to the future, being involves aspirations and the legacies we hope to leave behind, linking us to generations yet to come. This temporal belonging helps us construct our self-identity, understand our place in the world, and derive meaning from the passage of time itself. Balancing these dimensions – honouring the past, engaging with the present, and anticipating the future – enables a holistic sense of belonging that enriches the human experience.
